Australia: Centrelink Computers Shut Down

Mark Worley writes on Australian IT:

Centrelink's computer system went offline across the eastern seaboard due to "unforeseen technical difficulties".

The computer meltdown has prevented Tasmanian residents from lodging their payment applications at Centrelink offices.

Online services have also been affected and are not expected to be fully operational until Monday.

The Government has been forced to dole out automatic payments to every person who was expected to lodge payment applications.

But Centrelink general manager Hank Jongen urged any customer worried about being disadvantaged by this process, to visit their nearest Centrelink office as soon as possible today.
